Organized in 1831
First services were held in a tent at Chestnut AL a few miles away. The church began to split in 1841 due to anti-missionary members.

After a majority vote the church moved in 1851 to Buena Vista near the location of the present Buena Vista Cemetery.
The building was a two-story building and was used by the Masons as well as the church.
The current church at the present location was erected in 1905.
