Elizabeth Presbyterian Church

Located on the campus of The University of West Alabama in Livingston. 32.59299, -88.18414

Originally established in 1838 on land donated by Elizabeth Knox, this church began as a log structure serving a rural Sumter County congregation. In 1845, the original building was moved south of York, and in 1858, a new wooden sanctuary was constructed. The church served the local community for generations before falling into disuse. In 2011, it was named to the Alabama Places in Peril list due to its deteriorating condition. To preserve its legacy, the church was relocated to the University of West Alabama campus in Livingston, where it was restored and rededicated in 2023 as part of the Lenoir Chapel Complex.
