Frisco City Methodist Church

The first Methodist church was located at Hickory Grove, also known as Igo, southwest of Frisco City near the Ed Baas home. It was a split log cabin built in 1880. The building was replaced by a larger, better constructed building in 1904 and later burned in 1915. The church was reorganized and re-built at it’s present location in within the next year. The land for this church was donated by W.T. Middleton. The parsonage was built beside it two years later. The first pastor was Mr. McConnell. The first stewards were Mr. A.L. Harrison, Dr. Lyda, Mr. J.A. Barnes, and Mr. John Bowden.

A Methodist church was constituted in Jones Mills in 1913.  Due to a population shift, most congregants of Hickory Grove were now meeting with them in the Masonic Hall in Jones Mills.   Plans were begun in 1915 to erect a building.  Land was donated by Mr. W. L. (Fate) Middleton and the church was completed in 1917.  This building faced Busey Street ( now Houston Street) but was remodeled in 1936 and changed to face State Highway 21 (Highway 11 at that time).  The old church was torn down and the present brick building was constructed in 1965.  It began as part of the Methodist Episcopal Church South, changed to the United Methodist Church in 1968, and affiliated with the Associated Independent Methodist Church in 2023.
