Mount Pleasant Baptist Church

Organized on November 14, 1886.

Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church was organized on a location on what is now Eureka Road about a mile from the present location.

In 1928 a new church was built on the corner of Eureka Landing Road and Co. Rd 1.

The church was built from lumber that was milled from trees that had been torn up by a storm in 1926 and the lumber donated.

Then local people donated the remaining material and labor to build the church.

When I was searching for information on this church Wayne McMillian told this story as follows:

Alice and I were married in that building, and that night right after we left the building lightning struck the top of the church. That was 6-1-74 Some of the old times told me that God had put his signature on our marriage. I agree. Still going, next June 1st will be 50. The bolt of Lightning actually put a hole in the church. It happened just as we were leaving. The rain came so hard that we could hardly see to drive away. A night to remember. Clifford Deese was pastor.
