Owens Chapel Church

Built in the late 1800’s.

The area was very sparsely populated at that time.

The land the church was built on belonged to the Blackwell’s.

The Gulsbys, Brantleys and Brooks were already there at that time.

In the 1890’s the Langhams, Pughs, and Owens moved to the area from Old Texas.

Thus, the name Owens Chapel was derived.

Church membership declined in the 1920’s as members started to move away.

By the 1990’s membership was only a small hand full. A preacher named Jesse Joiner announced he would preach every Sunday regardless of how few showed up. The church started to grow and has grown much since then. It has been remodeled and added on to.

Today it boasts a strong congregation.
