The Old Federal Road was more than just a line on a map. It was a working road, carrying travelers, stagecoaches, mail, and news across early Alabama. This marker identifies the site of Price’s Hotel, an important stopping place for those traveling east from Greenville.

OLD FEDERAL ROAD
North of Salem Cemetery and the former church was the site of Price’s Hotel, the first place to spend the night on the Federal Road after Greenville. Mr. Price was also the stagecoach driver for this section between Greenville and his hotel. Mrs. McNeil’s Tavern was located halfway between the church and Midway.

Old Federal Road Project
This stop is part of my Old Federal Road Project, where I am documenting the markers and historic sites connected to Alabama’s old travel route. Price’s Hotel helps show how important inns, taverns, and stage stops were along the road. These places gave travelers food, rest, and a place to spend the night when traveling across the Alabama frontier was still a long and difficult journey.
