Stories of the elderly members of the church indicate that William Marshall Dees donated the ten-acre plot for a church and cemetery in honor of his grandfather, John Semoice, a descendant of the Wind Clan of the Muscogee (Creek) Tribe.

After the grant of land by W.M. Dees, the Semirah Springs Church was organized as a Free Will Baptist. W.M. Dees purchased the land from the Elba Land Office on October 01, 1860.

Lumber for the first church was purchased at Jones Mill and constructed by men of the neighborhood. A man named Renfroe was the 1st preacher.

A second building was built in 1934-1935 across the road from the first building. The third building, now in use, was built in 1948-1949.
